Coasting for unique finds...

1. Furniture City is the historic nickname for Grand Rapids, and the city's rich furniture tradition lives on in two downtown stores: Urban House is a hip, eclectic home and gift shop specializing in one-of-a-kind furniture pieces. Just down the street, EQ3 offers fresh, trendy furniture and home accessories at affordable prices.

2. East Fulton Business District features a variety of specialty shops, galleries, antique stores, salons, and restaurants in a neighborhood shopping district just one mile from downtown. Stop by Bluedoor Antiques for a surprising mix of vintage garden, country, French country and shabby chic furnishings.

3. East Hills: Center of the Universe, just one-half mile away, is a revitalized business district sprouting with furniture and clothing stores, gift shops and galleries. Stop for a bit to eat at Marie Catrib's - a hometown favorite serving up homemade breads, soups, sandwiches and desserts.

4. Robinette's Apple Haus & Gift Barn stocks fine collectibles, home decor items, kids' gifts, Christmas decorations, homemade fudge and their own wines - in addition to orchard tours, hayrides and more.

5. Muskegon Farmers and Flea Market showcases West Michigan's best produce, flowers and plants, as well as antiques, collectibles and garage sale finds.

6. Shopping in Grand Haven offers more than 175 stores offering everything from high fashion to beachwear, antiques to contemporary art, mountain bikes to stunt kites. Chinook Pier, a waterfront collection of unique shops and eateries, is just across the street from Harbourfront Place, a century-old piano factory beautifully renovated into a thriving festival marketplace.

7. Downtown Holland features more than 85 locally owned shops, boutiques, furniture stores, restaurants and cafes lining what the National Trust for Historic Preservation has named a "Great American Main Street." Free parking and snowmelt systems contribute to a great experience!

8. Saugatuck and Douglas are neighboring lakeside villages that offer a variety of unique and charming gift shops, specialty stores and art galleries. Be sure to check out the The Butler Pantry for specialty kitchenware and gourmet foods, and Good Goods for a sometimes quirky, sometimes elegant mix of furniture, ceramics, glass, jewelry, wearable art and more.
